Inter Regional |
![]() |
The BOCA Inter Regional event is the first time that the 2004 Region I girls ODP teams will have an opportunity to compete against ODP teams from other regions. The event begins November 20 and runs through November 27 with training and games every day. The event takes place at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. The Region I teams that will be participating are the four regional teams at 1990, 1989, 1988 and 1987 age groups. The 1988 US Women's National Team will compete in the 1987 group and the 1987 Scotland National Team will also compete.
During the week, teams will have rigorous training and will be under the watchful eyes of the US Women's National Team coaches and many college coaches. The 1987 and 1988 teams will play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while the 1989 and 1990 teams will play on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The two younger age groups will play two, forty minute halves, and the older age groups will play two, forty-five minute halves. All teams will use FIFA substitution rules with seven substitutes allowed, but with no entry.
Players that excel here are named to the youth national pools while the regional teams and the national teams compete for the "fictitious" gold medal or bragging rights for the event.
This event is one of the many events offered to players who compete in the US Youth Soccer ODP Program. The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.
